On June 14th, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, district officials, and community members celebrated the grand opening of Sycamore & Oak on the St. Elizabeth's East campus. The Sycamore & Oak development is a community-led project that aims to revitalize the Congress Heights area. The centerpiece of the development is a large mass timber structure, the largest free-standing mass timber building in Washington, D.C. This structure houses the Interim Retail Village, providing job opportunities to local residents and incubating retail and food concepts that originated within the community. The Sycamore & Oak project has significant impact for the Congress Heights neighborhood, celebrating the achievements of local black businesses and the transformation of the former mental illness facility into an eco-friendly marketplace.

Sol Donum's contribution to the Sycamore & Oak project includes the initial battery system for the pavilion's emergency circuits. The system boasts ultra-high efficiency power conversion technology innovations from U.S. vendor CE+T America. CE+T America’s incorporated components minimize raw material usage for full recyclability. This system delivers 3-phase 120V/208V power, providing 27kW to support all of the facilities’ lighting needs. With fully redundant hot swappable inverters that weigh only 5lbs each, the system ensures a long term, reliable power supply.
