Sol Donum Deploys Virginia's

First All Solar Broadband Tower

Sol Donum Delivers First Solar Microgrid for Broadband Communications

Virginia - Sol Donum partnered with Virginia Broadband to deploy the state’s first fully solar-powered broadband tower, bringing reliable high-speed internet to remote and underserved communities. By combining solar generation, advanced battery storage, and microgrid technology, the project expands connectivity while delivering zero-carbon, resilient power.

“Sol Donum’s Vulcan battery and energy system allows us to deploy access points anywhere there’s demand,” said Warren Manual, CEO of Virginia Broadband. “It’s a key differentiator and enables expansion with a zero-carbon footprint.”

The Vulcan Battery Energy Storage System is built for durability and performance, featuring automatic internal heating, a rugged metal enclosure, and proven operation in harsh conditions for over two years. Field operations lead Mike Vermillion noted the seamless installation and emphasized that solar power “reduced environmental impact and unlocked deployments previously unreachable.”

To ensure reliability, Sol Donum also deployed its IoT Watchdog platform, providing secure remote monitoring, predictive alerts, and up to three years of performance data—maximizing uptime, efficiency, and operational insight.
