Sol Donum has partnered with Virginia Broadband to deploy the state’s first all solar-powered broadband tower. This innovative project extends high-speed internet access to remote and underserved communities, enhancing quality of life and creating new economic opportunities. By combining renewable energy with advanced energy storage and microgrid technology, Sol Donum is helping bridge the digital divide while delivering reliable, sustainable power solutions.

Sol Donum’s Vulcan Battery Energy Storage system features an automatic internal heating system to extend battery life and maintain consistent performance in any environment. Housed in a custom-built metal enclosure, the Vulcan system is protected from the elements, enabling uninterrupted operation—even in challenging conditions—for over two years at deployed sites.

Mike Vermillion, head of field operations for Virginia Broadband, praised the Vulcan system calling the installation process seamless and highlighted that the transition to solar power "reduced environmental impact and opened new avenues of deployment in areas unreachable before."

IoT Watchdog – Smart, Secure Remote Monitoring



In addition to the Vulcan system, Sol Donum’s IoT Watchdog was deployed at the Virginia Broadband sites to provide secure remote monitoring. The Watchdog platform enables proactive and predictive system oversight through a user-friendly interface, helping operators detect and address issues before they become critical. With up to three years of stored system data, users can easily chart trends, analyze performance, and make informed decisions to maximize uptime and efficiency.
