On June 14th, Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, District officials, and community members celebrated the grand opening of Sycamore & Oak on the St. Elizabeths East campus. Sol Donum designed and installed an innovative battery system for the Sycamore & Oak pavilion emergency circuits, demonstrating our commitment to renewable energy solutions. The Sycamore & Oak development is a community-led project that aims to revitalize the Congress Heights area. The centerpiece of the development is a large mass timber structure, the largest free-standing mass timber building in Washington, D.C. This structure houses the Interim Retail Village, providing job opportunities to local residents and incubating retail and food concepts that originated within the community. The Sycamore & Oak project has significant impact for the Congress Heights neighborhood, celebrating the achievements of local black businesses and the transformation of the former mental illness facility into a marketplace that is eco-friendly, and will be powered 100% by renewable energy. “The Sycamore & Oak project represents a pivotal moment for the Congress Heights neighborhood, and we are proud to support this initiative,” said Clift Briscoe, Founder and Chief Products Engineer of Sol Donum. “Our innovative battery system, designed specifically for the Sycamore & Oak pavilion, ensures reliable power during emergencies."
